Public Official Arrested for Child Pornography in Galapagos; defendant contacted minors on Facebook

The Police arrested a person suspected of the crime of child pornography on San Cristóbal Island in the Galapagos archipelago , located about a thousand kilometers from the continental coasts of the Andean country, the Ministry of Government reported Thursday, June 24, 2021.

“The subject had conversations on Facebook with minors to commit sexual acts; he asked for photos and videos. One of the victims is from his family, the Ministry said on its Twitter account.

The police report says that through intelligence and investigation, they identified a suspect “who was conducting conversations with minors with the aim of committing sexual acts .”

After eight months of investigation, the Police executed Operation ‘Impact 513’ in coordination with the Prosecutor’s Office; they raided a property which resulted in the arrest of the suspect and several corroborating indications.

The detainee, a 51-year-old public official, will face a judicial process for the alleged crime of embezzlement, according to the party, which lists among the evidence collected on a computer, an external hard drive, two mobile terminals and three flash memory sticks.

The detainee has been brought to the order of the competent authority and the evidence entered by the Judicial Police.
