The sea lion is alive and under observation

A sea lion was run over by a truck on San Cristóbal Island. The animal is alive and under observation. Specialist technicians from the Directorate of the Galapagos National Park of this State portfolio, verified that the mammal presents normal mobility without evidence of injuries to its body, however, internal damage is not ruled out, so the sea lion will be under permanent monitoring by of park rangers.

GNPD technicians are collecting corresponding information on the event to support the administrative action for the possible environmental violation, since the adult sea lion was dragged about 20 meters by a motor vehicle, the fact being recorded in different security cameras of institutions and premises.

“We need to understand that the responsibility for caring for the ecosystem is shared,” said Danny Rueda, director of the Galapagos National Park, as a call to the community to respect the place where we live, considering that many species are part of our daily coexistence.

The event, which would have happened on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, was recorded in security cameras of institutions and premises located on the avenue where the accident occurred.
