The president-elect managed to triumph in most of the cantons in which Yaku Pérez won in the first round. He even won in 15 cantons in which Arauz triumphed in the first round.

The results of the second electoral round show a country divided between the two candidates who participated. But they also show that the elected president, Guillermo Lasso, managed to overcome in most cantons, which led him to achieve victory.

The results in each canton and their comparison with the first electoral round show that Andrés Arauz had difficulty in gaining in the territories where Yaku Pérez won the first round, whereas Lasso took the victory in most of those spaces.

But the overall view by cantons is very different from that of the provinces. As can be seen in the map below, the cantons of the central and northern Sierra gave their support to Arauz, although Lasso won in those provinces.

In the buttons in the Flourish map provided by Primicias, choose the display of the second lap or the first lap. Hover over each canton to see the results here.

In total, Guillermo Lasso won in 112 cantons, including the two largest in the country: Quito and Guayaquil. Andrés Arauz, on the other hand, won in 109, but with less population [within those cantons].

As in the first electoral round, the strength of Correísmo was maintained mainly on the coast and the north of the country, while the vote for Lasso was strongest in the Sierra, the Amazon and Galapagos.

Where did Pérez and Hervas’ votes go?

In the first round, Pachakutik’s candidate, Yaku Pérez, won in 94 cantons, in the Sierra and the Amazon. For the second round, most of those cantons gave the victory to Guillermo Lasso. Of the 94 cantons [where Pérez won in the first round], Lasso won in 77 and Arauz in 17.

On the other hand, Xavier Hervas, of the Democratic Left, won in 14 cantons. In all of them, the victory went to Lasso in the second round. Most of these territories are located in the south of the country, in Loja and Zamora Chinchipe.

This is reflected in the national results with the triumph of Lasso. The president-elect managed to grow significantly in the cantons in which both Pérez and Hervas had won.

Compared with the first electoral round, Lasso rebounded more than 60 percentage points in 19 cantons. The biggest rebound is in the Taisha canton, Morona Santiago, where it went from 3.29% to 75.02%.

For Arauz, it was more difficult to gain support. Lasso even managed to overcome him in 15 cantons in which [Arauz] had won in the first round. Among these are Esmeraldas, Guayaquil and Santo Domingo.

The best comeback for Arauz was in Azuay. In the cantons of Nabón, Sigsig, Guachapala, Oña, Paute, Gualaceo and Chordeleg, the Correista candidate rose more than 30 percentage points between the two election rounds.

However, in Quito and Guayaquil, Arauz barely managed to grow from 10 and 12 points for the second round.
