Doctors and frontline health personnel from the República del Ecuador hospital on Santa Cruz Island in the Galápagos province, have already received the first dose of the vaccine to curb the Covid-19 pandemic in the archipelago.

It was reported that the the personnel in charge of the action are the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) and [vaccination] will be extended in coming days to the rest of the islands, it was reported.

Verónica Borbor, from the Bellavista Health Center, stated that her wish to receive the vaccination was fulfilled. “We must all protect ourselves and the excellent news is that we are now more confident of obtaining immunity against the virus after vaccinating,” he said.

Carlos Jaramillo, Undersecretary of Provision of Health Services of the MSP and delegate of the highest authority of this State Portfolio, highlighted the speed of the process. “Hope also came to Galapagos. The process was very dynamic and fast. I must highlight the well-being of our health personnel who were vaccinated,” he assured.

He thanked the Governing Council of the Galapagos Special Regime, the National Police and the Armed Forces for the logistical support, reception, transport and the security of the vaccine doses. “It has been a successful job on all fronts. Tomorrow (this Tuesday, February 2) we will carry out a similar process and without a doubt, the support will be unconditional in the territory, ” added the undersecretary.

The Vaccine Plan carried out by the National Government is extended throughout the national territory to first-line professionals and the elderly, to guarantee access to vaccination. This Tuesday, the activity will continue at the Oskar Jandl Hospital, on San Cristóbal Island. (I)
